Services that The Arc of Nassau County provides

The Arc of Nassau County currently provides many needed services to people with disabilities residing in the Nassau County area. Our goal with these services is help our clients achieve a healthy, happy and fulfilling lifestyle. Here is a brief overview of the services we have available.

Adult Day Training

The Arc of Nassau County Adult Day Training Program

Adult Day Training is a service that helps people with disabilities learn new skills and to be engaged in meaning day activities. The program normally operates six hours each weekday from 8:30am to 2:30pm. This program offers activities that are designed to improve skills in daily living, communication and social interaction. Clients are also given the opportunity to participate in recreational activities, arts and craft projects and music and drama classes.

Vocational training is also offered and clients are given the opportunity to earn a pay check without leaving the facility by participating in piece-rate mailing projects and hourly paid cleaning and maintenance assignments. Off-site part-time employment is available at the Florida Welcome Center and truck weigh stations located on I-95. Off-site employment uses a small group enclave model where clients are provided with transportation to the work location and are accompanied by a job coach.

Most Adult Day Training activities occur at the Yulee training center but clients are frequently provided the opportunity to go on community inclusion outings. The activities provided are custom tailored to the personal outcomes and goals that have been identified in each client's implementation plan.

Community Inclusion

The Arc of Nassau County Community Inclusion

Community Inclusion provides individualized training in recreation/leisure settings, that enable people with disabilities to become a more integrated with their local community.

The service might involve teaching clients how to shop, how to use the library, public recreational facilities and other community based resources. Focus is on helping clients improve social interaction, introducing clients to available community based resources and supports. The community inclusion activities relate to one or more goals in a client's support plan.

Transportation

Transportation service assists people with disabilities get from place to place. This is critical since most all of our clients are unable to drive.

The principle transportation priority is on getting clients from their homes to their scheduled adult training which is held Monday through Friday in our Yulee training center.

Transportation is also provided for community inclusion trips that occur as part of the adult training program as well as to and from special recreation and sporting events.

Supported Employment

The Arc of Nassau County Supported Employment

Supported Employment is designed to help persons with disabilities secure and successfully maintain fulfilling employment in their local community. New program participants are assigned a job coach who helps clients learn about different types of jobs and assists them in determining what type of job might be right for the client. Clients learn about essential job skills like dependability, getting along with a boss and co-workers and appropriate social behaviors in an employment setting.

The job coach assists the client with finding appropriate job opportunities, preparing them for the application and interview process and arranging for any specialized training. After a client secures employment, the job coach may assist with on the job training and may periodically check in with the client and his/her boss to see how things are going.

Respite and Personal Care

Personal Care is a service that helps a people with disabilities meet essential personal needs in eating, bathing, dressing or personal hygiene. This service may also help with things such as meal preparation or other activities that are essential to a person's health and welfare.

Respite Care is a service that gives family members or regular caregivers some time off from the responsibilities of caring for an individual with a disability. Respite care can be scheduled for a single day or for a week if needed. It can also be used for family emergencies.

Supportive Living

The Arc of Nassau County Supportive Living

Supportive Living Program provides opportunities for people with disabilities to live independently as possible within the local community.

The Supportive Living Program utilizes a coaching model to provide assistance and training to individual who live in their own home or apartment. The coach helps clients learn independent living skills such as managing a budget, paying bills, housekeeping, grocery shopping and cooking. The coach also helps clients make new friends and learn about the local community.
